Try to forget everything you have been told about the golf swing and instead break it down into its most fundamental parts and reason from the bottom up
- At its most basic level, the golf swing is two parts: the backswing which is meant to build up potential energy and the downswing which is meant to convert that potential energy into kinetic energy and transfer it to the back of the ball.
- To achieve this, the human body needs to perform two distinct but synchronized motions: the torso needs to turn backwards and then forwards, and the arms needs to raise up and then lower down.
- To efficiently transfer the greatest amount of energy to the ball, the club face should be traveling at its maximum speed at impact. Therefore an over acceleration of the club too early will reach its maximum speed too early and can only slow down at impact. There should be a constant rate of acceleration starting at the top of the backswing when the arms are raised and ending at the bottom of the downswing when the arms are lowered.
- Because the human brain cannot allocate 100% of its processing power to more than one idea at a time, and because the swing happens so quickly, swing thoughts should be limited to two; one for the backswing and one for the downswing.
