Tortilla Press

A gift to an old friend

In 2019, while visiting Colorado for a family reunion, we dropping in on my old friend Chris and his family. They are vegan and therefore prefer to make their own dairy free tortillas from scratch. His wife mentioned that they wanted to buy a tortilla press on Amazon but it seemed expensive and I thought I could make it for a fraction of the cost. After some discussion over dinner, I agreed to make it as a gift for them.

The materials are walnut, maple and oak. They are simply laminated together with food safe glue. It is finished in a food safe mineral oil which I included in the box so they can reapply it over time. Only took a few hours and cost maybe $30 in materials. I hope they get much enjoyment from it.
